Animoto, no not a ‘b’ movie

So at the ICE08 conference I happened to see a demo of a really neat online tool, Animoto. Basically a group of people who came from the film and software industries got together and built what I would simply call an automated photo collage maker. But it is so much more. It has ab ability to take a series of photos, a soundtrack, and some direction on which to spotlight and then the magic happens. With the skill of an accomplished director of photography, editor and scriptwriter, the software uses its algorithms to simply make a quality movie. See the sample below, try it yourself and enjoy. After speaking to the founder, upcoming features include;

  • upload and use of video files along with photos
  • extended length movies
  • HD video capabilities
  • much more

Much of the fun with the tool is the ability to share the videos on their gallery, upload directly to Youtube, download as an .mp4 file and many other options. For a free service it doesnt leave much to be desired.

One other amazing feature is that you can use the same photos, with the same soundtrack and no two movies will ever be the same. Below I changed the music to show a variance in speed and transitions. The images, the order, the focus selections…all the same.

Good luck making your own videos. Try it out and post a comment with the link to share with others.
