Facebook chat, even more time spent per day on the site

Many people might have noticed a new feature on Facebook this morning…

Some bloggers in January stated that December’s average usage on Facebook was as 169.4 minutes per user, slightly less than the average length of time that visitors spent on Facebook in October, which was about 195.6 minutes. So Facebook decided to look for alternate means to trap consumers in their net as their time spent stats slipped. Enter Facebook chat.

We all use instant messaging in some way or another, whether Windows Live Messenger, Gchat, Skype, AIM or others, it is common place to have multiple chat windows open simultaneously. Now add to the mix another application, one that resides in the browser and forces you to keep open the Facebook interface. If you leave it long enough, it will time out, and they have not yet implemented automated advertisement refreshing, however even with the high consumption of Facebook in Canada, this is sure to keep people there even longer.
