Twitter goes local

Twitter goes local

City Tweets is another addition to the family of web-based endeavors that aim to maximize the many uses of the micro blogging platform Twitter. Through this site you can find all about Twitter activity in any of the featured cities, as the website lists Tweets both from and about a given area.

The system is implemented in real time, and the cities which are taken into account can be easily accessed using the provided navigation menu. More cities are on the way, and you can always resort to the provided “Request a CityTweets Page for your City” link so that the place where you live becomes part of this online initiative. I have already requested Toronto!

Twitter has revolutionized the way people connect with each other and share information. As such, it is interesting to see new endeavors like this one come along and try to make this micro blogging platform yet more flexible and cogent.

I’m finding that there are a ton of new Twitter tools popping up everyday and the key is to figure out ways to best leverage these tools to find information that you’re looking for. When searching in specific geographic regions (eg. Toronto) I like to use http://www.search.twitter.com and typing in Toronto along with any other keywords that may be relevent. Although, I can see CityTweets serving as a good tool to see what people in specific region are talking about as a form of market research.

It is amazing, I have rarely seen a tool take off in the market so quickly.
