Thanks to Profectio for holding this competition. I though posting the list of candidates to date would be a great way to give them all additional distribution. They are after all in the game of marketing themselves, their companies and their ideas through the social network.

Throughout the US election of 2008, Twitter and social media became a new reality. In fact, it felt to me as a Canadian that the entire election was fought and won online and through my cell phone. Now it is Canada’s turn. For those of you that don’t know, Canada is based on a framework of constitutional monarchy and a federal system of parliamentary government with strong democratic traditions. The Canadian monarch, besides reigning in Canada, separately serves as monarch for each of fifteen other Commonwealth countries known as Commonwealth realms. This Monarch today, is the Queen of England.
A while ago, a client asked for a 2009 Online Strategy Document. Myself, and members of my team set out to do some research on the client’s market, their competitors, their business objectives…the standard set of things you would research in the build of this kind of document. What turned out was actually a pretty good first attempt at giving life to an otherwise ignored area of the client’s business.

Christie Adams wrote a great post on Profectio that I wanted to highlight for my readers.
According to Christie, a recent global survey of over 500 executives showed that social media improves customer relations AND boosts sales. In fact, two-thirds of them saw a vast difference after adopting a social media strategy. Yet-also not surprising-many top-office executives are wary of using social media in their communications strategies.

The Conservative Party of Canada had to deal with a little issue when an ad on their website showing an animated bird pooping on Liberal Leader Stephane Dion’s shoulder was launched. Prime Minister Stephen Harper was forced to apologize Tuesday after the ad caused a stink on Day 3 of the federal election campaign.

So the Canadian launch came, and went with as much fan fare as expected. When Rogers Wireless Inc. rolled out the red carpet for the next-generation iPhone 3G hundreds of customers including some of my co-workers jostled to be the first to get their hands on the coveted piece of technological and marketing wizardry.
By mid-morning, heavily-stocked Rogers Plus stores across Canada had run out. “It’s definitely going to sell out …
The Canada Revenue Agency has extended the usually “in stone” deadline for Canadians who are filing online. If using Netfile to file tax returns the deadline is now May 6, instead of midnight, April 30 due to problems with the Canada Revenue Agency’s website. Taxpayers using Netfile recently have encountered delays with the website and in some cases have not been able to file at all. …
The parent agency for whom I work, Bensimon Byrne, yesterday released the Consumerology Report, containing data gleaned from a national (Canadian) survey conducted online. In the results, the majority (57%) of respondents said they’re currently limiting their purchases because they’re worried about economic conditions and the rising cost of necessities.
Jack Bensimon, the President of the agency says that’s no reason for marketers to put the brakes on advertising. “It’s …
